For more than a quarter century, Ballet Folklorico Ollin continues to be recognized as the premiere Mexican folk dance group in Cali A unique non-profit cultural organization fornia with a reputation of excellence acknowledged throughout the United States.  

 


Founded in 1972, Ballet Folklorico Ollin Inc. is a non-profit cultural organization   with the primary goal of preserving the folk culture of Mexico in the United States through research, education, and interpretation of Mexican inspired folk dance and music.

 

Ollin has completed 3 successful tours of Mexico to enthusiastic acclaim culminating with the honor of performing as the opening cultural act for the prestigious Feria Nacional de San Marcos in Aguascalientes, Ags., Mexico.

The City of San Fernando annually showcases Ollin in “El Grito”, a celebration of the Mexican Independence Day. Ollin also has had the honor of performing at the annual Encuentro Internacional del Mariachi in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico and is a recipient of a creation and presentation grant provided through the National Endowment of the Arts. Through the cooperation of the Orange County Philharmonic Society, Ollin captured the holiday spirit with 10 years of programming “Fiesta Navidad” featuring Mariachi Los Camperos de Nati Cano at the Orange County Center for the Performing Arts.  Ollin has shared the stage with legends Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlan, Mariachi Monumental, and Mariachi Divas. Ballet Folklorico Ollin successfully completed its 3rd Annual Noche Veracruzana performance at The Ford Amphitheatre to a sold-out audience in the 2010 Summer Season. This year, the 2011 Christmas season will complete 6 triumphant seasons of Holiday programming with Grammy Award Winning Mariachi Divas.

 

Earlier notable credits of the company include the 91st. Annual Tournament of Roses Parade representing Mexico’s entry, the Democratic National Convention in Los Angeles, and as featured artists at the Nosotros Golden Eagle Awards. A rewarding highlight of the company’s history was participation in the Hispanic Dance Festival, held as part of the 1984 Olympic Arts Festival in Los Angeles.


Ollin is available for educational programming and members also donate their talents to entertaining the disabled and elderly, participating in community fund-raisers and offering lecture demonstrations to audiences of all ages.

Ballet Folklorico Ollin is committed to professionalism and community involvement with a quality production that reaches with impact into all levels of the artistic community.


Our curriculum of instruction develops an awareness of Mexico’s diverse culture through music and dance emphasizing the art of performance. Presently, classes are conducted for all entry levels and ages. Through a variety of documentation, the Ballet guarantees the valuable preservation of Mexico’s history and influence for further generations.
